BP Employee Reminder – August 31 Deadline for 401(k) Changes

Now that the August 31st 401(k) deadline has passed, we want to make sure you are aware that you can still take action . Multop Financial offers advice for your current 401(k) plans. We have also helped many BP employees take advantage of their “in-service rollover” option. This option allows current employees to rollover a portion of your 401(k), without tax or penalty, into an IRA which can be managed away from the restrictions of the BP plan; thus allowing you access to the full spectrum of retirement account options through our brokerage services. We can even re-create your old 401(k) plan, greatly improving your ability to diversify your retirement money. While diversification cannot eliminate risk, it can help manage it.

Smithsonian Exhibition Opens in Bellingham!

As many of you might know, Melanie Multop serves on the Board of Directors of the Whatcom Museum, and would like to share some exciting news and information.  Last November at a formal ceremony during the Gala Opening of the Lightcatcher Building, the Museum received its Certificate of Affiliation to the Smithsonian Institute, and this month the much-anticipated first Smithsonian exhibition will be installed and opened to the public! 1934: A New Deal for Artists opens Saturday, September 18 at the Whatcom Museum. In 1934, Americans faced an economic situation that feels all too familiar today. Against the backdrop of the Great Depression, the U.S. government created the Public Works of Art Project — the first federal government program to support the arts nationally. Artists who participated in the program were encouraged to depict “the American Scene.” 1934: A New Deal for Artists celebrates the 75th anniversary of this project.

Located in the heart of Bellingham’s cultural district, the Whatcom Museum, a non-profit organization operated jointly by the City of Bellingham and the Whatcom Museum Foundation, provides excellent educational programs and exhibitions about art, nature and Northwest history. The Smithsonian exhibition will run through January 9, 2011 and is the only west coast stop for this 3-year tour. Melanie will be arranging some private tours so if you're interested in participating, give us a call and put your name on the list!  Dates and times to be determined based on sign-ups.
